Primary 4/5 enjoyed a very Scottish Burns Supper Celebration on Monday 25th January.
We celebrated the life and work of the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. As part of our Scotland Social Studies topic, we have been learning about his works including Red, Red Rose, Tam O’Shanter, A Man’s A Man and To A Mouse. We celebrated by:
*Singing Flower of Scotland
*Reciting Red Red Rose
*Singing Scots Wha Hae
*Reading the Address to a Haggis
*Toasting to the Lassies (Written by Raven and Tony with help from Robert Burns):
“Good afternoon, girls,
We would like to give a toast to remind you that you’re wonderful.
You’re beautiful,
You’re loving,
You smell like a beautiful flower,
You’re kind hearted,
You’re the best girls in the world
“O once I lov’d a bonnie lass,
Aye, and I love her still;
And whilst that virtue warms my breast,
I’ll love my handsome Nell.”
*Toasting to the Laddies (Written by Jaye and Mia with help from Robert Burns):
“Good afternoon everybody,
We love the lads, we’ll always love them.
“Had we never loved sae kindly
Had we never loved sae kindly
Had we never loved sae blindly
Never met – or never parted –
We had ne’er be broken hearted”
We love them because they’re handsome
We love them because they’re smart
We love their fantastic style
We’ll always love the laddies, no matter what!”
*Enjoying Haggis, Vegetarian Haggis, Shortbread and Diet Irn Bru
*Singing Caledonia.
Everyone who tried the haggis loved it! We all had a wonderful afternoon celebrating one of the most famous Scottish Poets.
