This week, Mr Anderson and I have been working with teachers Gift and Tamandani from Ngumbe to sort the books in the library and make it easier for the children to find a suitable book. We have colour coded, labelled and recorded all of the books so that the children can borrow them more easily. We have also been working closely with the children and their class teachers in the library to help improve their learning of English. We have been teaching English using library books such as One Mole Digging a Hole, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Room on the Broom and Wow Said the Owl. We have been using songs and rhymes like 10 Little Monkeys, 10 Green Bottles, I Can Sing A Rainbow and 10 Little Speckled Frogs. I have also been teaching in Standard 6 which has 161 children. They have a new classroom block built this year by Holyrood Secondary School. It is very well looked after by the children who clean it and wash the floor. Their teacher, Eve let me teach about long and short vowel sounds. The children really liked our Jolly Phonics songs and actions. I hope you are all well and that you enjoy your September Weekend! In Malawi, it’s business as usual for us on Monday but we don’t mind at all- we are having a great time and learning lots to share with you when we come home! Love, Miss Black x
