International Day of the African Child

The children have been learning about the importance of International Day of the African Child which is celebrated on Tuesday 16th June 2015.
This day commemorates the Soweta uprising where many children died fighting for their right to education in 1976.

The children have been finding out about issues that prevent more than 30 million African children from accessing education.
They have also been exploring traditional African stories which provide moral education and link well with our Rights Respecting School and Citizenship learning.

On Wednesday 17th June, the children will have the chance to taste some African food provided by Cordia who will donate some of the proceeds to Glasgow City Council Malawi Leaders of Learning Charity, which is the charity that Miss Black worked with in Malawi. Find out more about their work here:
